Mission Monarch Morning
Hello friends!
Our 3rd annual Mission Monarch Monitoring event is happening this Saturday July 25th from 9:00 – 11:00am at the Manestar Sand Barren, Zavitz Nursery Tract, St Williams Conservation Reserve (1744 Concession 6, St. Williams).
This is a fun morning of citizen science. Together we’ll search milkweed plants for signs of monarch butterflies, including eggs and caterpillars, and then document what we find.
This event is affiliated with the Insectarium in Montreal. Observations submitted by volunteers contribute to long-term monitoring of monarchs across North America.
This event is also a great introduction to the International Monarch Monitoring Blitz, happening July 31 to Aug 9.
Join Joelle at the Manester Sand Barren this Saturday to learn how to:
- Identify Milkweed Plants
- Identify Monarch Eggs, Caterpillars, and Adults
- Submit your sightings to Mission Monarch
- Notice the many fascinating insects found throughout the Manestar Sand Barren
Please come prepared for field conditions:
- Poison ivy is present at the site
- Biting insects, including deer flies and ticks, will likely be present
- Wear long pants, sturdy closed-toe footwear, and dress for the weather
- Bring water, insect repellent, and your curiosity
Overall, it will be an enjoyable morning full of discovery.
