Educational Awareness

Learn About Our Natural & Cultural Heritage

One of the objectives for the SWCR is to encourage individuals and groups to learn about the conservation reserve’s natural and cultural heritage. The learning never stops when considering the site’s significance, history, ecological processes, features, complexity, sensitivity, and beauty.

Both tracts feature exceptional biological diversity, restoration efforts, and demonstration plantations that all offer excellent educational opportunities.

The SWCRCC achieves this goal by partnering with conservation organizations and local nature organizations to help promote shared values.

Mission Monarch

Every July, SWCRCC hosts a fun and educational morning at Manestar Tract located in the Zavitz Nursery Tract to share the important work Mission Monarch.

We invite the public to come out to learn about the importance of monarch butterflies, their life cycle, how to identify Monarch eggs, caterpillars, and adults, and what plants and features make up an ideal monarch habitat.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday July 26th from 9am to 11am. Join us as we spend the morning exploring the unique sand barren habitat in search of monarchs, keeping count of every egg, caterpillar, and adult we see, and learning about different types of milkweed plants.

This is an excellent opportunity to observe nature, contribute to citizen science, and enjoy the outdoors. This event is suitable for all ages.
