Prescribed Burns, Spring 2025

The St. Williams Conservation Reserve may conduct one or more prescribed burns between April 1 and May 15, 2025, depending on weather conditions. These carefully planned burns are essential for restoring the globally rare Oak Savanna ecosystem and improving habitat for Species at Risk.

This initiative is led by the St. Williams Conservation Reserve Community Council (SWCRCC), a local organization dedicated to working alongside Ontario Parks to restore the ecological integrity of the reserve.

Spanning 1,035 hectares, the St. Williams Conservation Reserve is one of the largest natural areas in southern Ontario’s Carolinian ecoregion. It holds regional, provincial, and national significance for its exceptional biodiversity and natural heritage. This protected area is also home to one of the highest concentrations of Species at Risk in Ontario and Canada.
